Obama Announces Advanced Car Emission Standards

small_carsWashington, DC—The Obama Administration, working with the State of California and automakers, announced a historic agreement today on a framework to reduce emissions from the next generation of vehicles. The federal agreement will result in better fuel economy and reduced emissions from new cars and light-duty trucks, model years 2017-2025, specifically achieving a vehicle carbon pollution standard of 54.5 miles per gallon. This standard would help cut California’s oil consumption by as much as 180,000 barrels per day by 2030, equivalent to roughly a quarter of California’s 2010 crude oil consumption.
