Agricultural Equipment
Tractors and other agricultural equipment comprise the largest unregulated category of diesel emissions in California. Although exemptions were removed in 2003, the Air Resources Board has been slow to develop agricultural equipment regulations; they are expected to do so in 2012. CCA is calling for an 85% reduction in diesel particulate matter from 90% of the fleet by 2020, plus an overall 15% or more reduction of NOx emissions by 2017. Furthermore, California’s Global Warming Scoping Plan does not include any greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures from the agriculture sector, which represents more than 1/16 of the state’s GHG pollution. CCA will continue pushing to include this sector in the state’s global warming reduction strategy.
